EL’s Darling named All-State

Elk Lake junior pitcher Brooke Darling has been named to the Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association All-State team for her performance in the 2010 season.

Darling, who pitched a pair of perfect games and multiple no-hitters, bolstered a stifling 0.14 earned run average and amassed 200-plus strikeouts, was awarded second team honors in Class AA. She helped the Warriors to a 16-1 mark on the season. The only loss was to eventual state champion Nanticoke.
The 2010 campaign was a standout season for Elk Lake that saw Darling help lead the Warriors to their first league championship since 2005.
This year marks Darling’s second straight all-state pick, and in addition was also named the Scranton Times-Tribune Player of the Year.
Darling’s technique can be partly attributed to traveling almost every weekend to Reading to see pitching coach Dan DeMarco of Rock N Fire, Inc.
And for her hard work, she was also named as a Lackawanna League Division III coaches’ all-star, and was honored as the Player of the Year by the Lackawanna League coaches.
Darling is currently continuing playing softball for the summer with the TC Tremors Gold 18U ASA travel team out of Endicott, N.Y.
