Camp Delahanna, a Cub Scout Day Camp serving northeastern Pennsylvania and southern Broome County, held its Jungle Safari themed adventure, July 5-9, at the Central Conservation Camp in South Montrose.
Dulcie Priestner was the Camp Director and Sarah Resseguie was the Program Director.
The scouts celebrated the 100th anniversary of boy scouting by going on a jungle safari, much as the scout movement’s founder Lord Baden Powell did.
Many of the staff members have served annually as day camp volunteers, even planning for a week’s vacation so that they can fully participate.
Boys from both Susquehanna County and Wyoming County Cub Scout packs were campers. Their schedule included daily fishing, archery, arts and crafts, games, special programs, BB gun range, nature lessons, and campcraft.
Special features included song time with Judy and Karen, a visit from the Binghamton Zoomobile, a wood carving demonstration, and a falconer.
Boys learned knife and fire safety, flag raising, lowering and retiring protocol, and citizenship, which they demonstrated at the closing program Friday night, along with skits, songs and cheers they had created. An awards program, family picnic and retiring of worn American flags concluded the week’s activities.
