Mt. View principal named

The Mountain View School Board voted Monday night to name Robert Presley as its new elementary school principal.

Presley, who has been assistant principal at East Stroudsburg North High School since February, and served as an elementary school teacher at Susquehanna Community School District from 1999 to 2009, will be paid $72,000 a year.
His start date is to be determined, and he fills a post that has been vacant since July 1, when Susan Pipitone took an in-house transfer to become Mountain View’s Director of Special Services.
The board opened a discussion about how the shuttle bus which had been used for after school activites and was cancelled in June for costing too much, could now be paid for in 2010-11.
Board member Kevin Griffiths wanted to know where the money was coming from, as the school district’s budget was “in a very dangerous” situation.
Fellow member Dava Rinehart-Cowan said she could support possibly having the shuttle for two days, but didn’t think she could support more than that, given the current state of the budget.
High School Principal Andrew Doster said that following last Week’s car crash that killed a former Mountain View as well as Blue Ridge student, the school was monitoring if there was a need for grief counselors .
“If there is a need, we will have them,” Doster said, acknowledging that no one had requested them to date. He noted they would be available to students when school starts back up Aug. 25.
