Andrea Beeman, 17-year-old daughter of Bryce and Cynthia Beeman of Kingsley, was chosen 2010 Harford Fair Queen on Monday night.
She is a senior at Mountain View High School. During her speech, Beeman spoke of her childhood memories of the fair, a chance to see family and friends. She praised those who have worked to keep the fair going for 154 years, a fair built around agriculture.
Harford Fair Alternate Queen Daisy Matulevich is the 18-year-old daughter of Cheryl and Gary Matulevich, residing in Hop Bottom. She is a sophomore at Mansfield University where she is majoring in nursing. Activeley involved in 4-H for many years, Matulevich has interned at the 4-H office this summer, giving her an opportunity to appreciate all the hard work that goes into the fair exhibits.This one week out of the year is the time to see family and renew friendships.
Other members of the court were Kelli Agler, daughter of Jack and Kay Agler, Susquehanna; Alexis Jean DeLousia, daughter of Sandra and Dominic DeLousia, Brackney; Rachel Klein, daughter of Jay and Beth Klein, Brackney; and Andrea Sheldon, daughter of Lloyd and Beverly Sheldon, Susquehanna.
Carol Small who reigned over the 2009 fair was given a State Fair Queen blanket and a scrapbook to commerate her year as fair queen by the Queen Contest coordinators, Ginny Beeman and Deb Chidester, also known as the Queen Moms.
Small said that being Harford Fair Queen was the highest honor she has ever received. She listed all the great advantages of being queen and the many ‘firsts’ she experienced during her year as queen. She was allowwed to call Bingo; shear a sheep, hand out ribbons and eat lots of good food. She also praised the fair directors as they do everything that needs to be done to keep the fair going. “If you see a director, thank him/her for serving the community,”she said.
Jason Miller was Master of Ceremonies and acknowledged those who had contributed to the annual contest: Ellen Fuhrey Frystak (JDE Hair Design); WeeBee Flowers; Top Hat and Tails Formal Wear; Craige’s Photique; Spence Craige who acted as escort for the contestents.
The Pennsylvania Trappers Association presented a monetary gift to the queen.
Among the many former fair queens present was Harford Fair’s 1992 Queen, April Beeman Metwalli, the first since the contest was re-introduced.
