Heck takes over Forest City boys basketball

Longtime assistant girls basketball coach Mike Heck is taking over as the head coach of the boys basketball program at Forest City High School.

Heck spent 18 years assisting Carl Urbas with the successful girls team at Forest City.
“My goal is to get the kids coming off the bench to be fundamentally sound,” Heck said. “You can’t talk wins and losses at this point. You need the fundamentals and that will push the other kids to make themselves better.”
Heck replaces Jason Pantzar, who did not re-apply for his position. In Pantzar’s three years as the head coach, the former standout player at the school, guided the Foresters to a record of 25-45.
Forest City competes in the Lackawanna Division III. Last year, the Foresters finished 2-12 in the division and 4-19 overall.
“I am a discipline person,” Heck said. “I want to have the kids see, can you beat and play against a team that is better than you. You may not have won the game, but you played hard and you gave it your all.
“We are going to work.”
