Planning department position eliminated

The number of subdivision plans submitted to the Susquehanna County planning office has been dropping off in recent years, despite a coincidental boom of natural gas leasing activity, county planner Bob Templeton said.

With the reduced workload in the office, the county opted to scale back its workforce by one and eliminated the department’s clerk/typist position.
Following an executive session of the salary board on Wednesday, Aug. 11, the board voted to eliminate the position effective Aug. 27.
The salary board is comprised of the three county commissioners and county treasurer.
According to Templeton, in 2009 102 subdivision plans were submitted to the planning commission. That’s about one-third less than the average number of plans submitted in each of the past four years.
So far this year, the county planning commission has approved 50 subdivision applications and Templeton is not sure if the county will reach the 100 mark by the year’s end.
Prior to eliminating one clerk position, the salary board created a part-time clerk position in the Register and Recorder’s office.
