Hallstead man sentenced for sex offenses

A Hallstead man will serve time in the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility for the 2008 sexual assault of a minor in New Milford and the attempted abuse of children in February 2009 in Franklin Twp.

Brian Eugene Repchick, 38, was sentenced to 11-1/2 to 23 1/2 months on Thursday by President Judge Kenneth Seamans in the Susquehanna County Court of Common Pleas.
He also received seven years probation for possession of child pornography in connection with charges lodged against him in July 2009. The sentences will run concurrent.
Repchick attempted to take pictures of two juvenile females urinating. District Attorney Jason Legg said the technical charge was sexual abuse of children but the case actually dealt with the man’s attempt to produce child pornography – a Megan’s Law offense.
He was evaluated and determined to be a sexually violent offender by the Sexual Offender Assessment Board.
The statutory sexual assault was not a Megan’s Law offense, said Legg.
The child pornography case came along later, said the district attorney, when downloaded child pornography was discovered on a family computer.
Legg said the cases were resolved with plea agreements and the victims and their families were consulted and agreed with the proposed resolution.
“The sentences were within the standard range for all offenses,” said Legg, “even though it does not seem like a lot of time for the offenses”
Repchick apologized to the victims at the time of the sentence.

Kristy Skiro, 36, of Tunkhannock, to six months probation, for Driving Under the Influence in Springville on January 1.
