Accused pot grower’s hearing continued

The preliminary hearing was continued for a Dimock man facing felony three drug manufacturing charges.

Susquehanna County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force seized over 300 marijuana plants from the John Bennett residence on Aug. 27.

The Sept. 2 hearing for Bennett, 54, in Montrose District Court was rescheduled for Sept. 27. Bennett is free on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Bennett’s attorney, Marc Darfomal requested the continuance.

Susquehanna County detectives executed a search of Bennett’s house and property on Friday, Aug. 27.

The search team, comprised of county detectives and state police, seized 276 marijuana plants that were growing in four separate plots adjacent to the residence.

According to the affidavit, the plants ranged from four to eight-feet tall.

An additional 31 marijuana plants in the process of being dried were seized from a truck trailer on the property.

A dump truck from the state Dept. of Transportation was used to haul the plants from the scene.

Also seized were multiple bags of processed marijuana; assorted drug paraphernalia; stalks and growing magazines.

According to the affidavit, Bennett stated that the items seized were all his and that he had been growing marijuana at the residence for the past three to four years.

In addition to the felony manufacturing charges, Bennett also faces misdemeanor possession charges.
