Novak takes Apple Festival bike race

Tunkhannock’s David Novak won the 26-mile Montrose Apple Festival Bike Race on Saturday morning, missing the course record by 10 seconds.

Tunkhannock’s David Novak had a strong showing at the Montrose Apple Festival Bike Races on Saturday, Sept 11, as he took first place overall.

David Novak won the Pro 1/2/3, 26 mile race, missing the course record by 10 seconds with a 65:10 finish.

He also won the King of the Mountain (KOM) for the 26 mile race.

John Loomis won the junior 15-18 race, 13 miles. John is freshman at Tunkhannock and runs cross country and wrestles for the Tigers.

Ashley Johnson was the beginner women winner with a 41:54 mile race, while Joe Jacobs took home first in the beginner men’s race at 34:16.

In the 26 mile “1-2-3-4” race for women, Marjoleen Schat took first place at 78:10.

The 26 mile category 4 race saw Michael Grygus take first at 67:18, while Phill Vermette won the 26 mile men’s 35 and over race.

1-John Loomis, 35:19; 2-Colby Schapiro, 39:37; 3-Darren Johnson 44:35.

13 Mile RR Category 4 Beginner Women

1- Ashley Johnson, 41:54; 2- Susan Foster, 46:43; 3- Janet Crawford, 47:07.

13 Mile RR Category 5 Beginner Men

1- Joe Jacobs, 34:16; 2- Gary Mikulski 34:53; 3- Place Michael Volo 35:05

26 Mile RR Category 1-2-3-4 Women

1- Marjoleen Schat, 78:10; 2- Jacqueline Paull, 80:05;  3- Karla Eish 83:34.

26 Mile RR Category 4

Men

1- Michael Grygus, 67:18; 2-Edward Ellard, 69:02; 3- Kevin Deibert, 69:02

26 Mile RR Category 35+ men

1- Phill Vermette, 69:02; 2- Todd Sherwood, 69:28 3- Edward King, 71:46.

26 Mile RR Category Pro 1-2-3

1- David Novak 65:10; 2- Teddy Kozlowski; 3-David Yacobelli.
