Local golfers miss regional cut

Several golfers from Susquehanna County schools missed the cut for the East Regional tournament at the District II Championship on Monday at Fox Hill.

Coming in tops at the tournament was Montrose’s Jordan Smith who carded a 44-40—84, followed by Meteor Cole Wheaton who shot a 43-42—85.

Also finishing was Montrose’s Lance Nealy with a 43-43—86, Meteor Casey O’Reilly with a 44-46—90, Mountain View’s Tyler Salak with a 44-49—93, Montrose’s Bill Stranburg with a 44-53—97 and Forest City’s Dom Sparks with a 55-43—108.

The locals made the cut to take part in the District II championships after strong performances at the Pre-District qualifier at Elmhurst on Wednesday.

Montrose’s five golfers punched their tickets as Stranburg topped for the Meteors with a 77, good enough to tie him for sixth place. He shot a 40 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine.

Wheaton also tied for seventh as he shot a 41 on the front nine and a 36 on the back nine.

Smith came in ninth place shooting a 41-39—80 for Montrose, while Nealy took 13th with a 41-43—84.

Also qualifying for Montrose was O’Reilly, who finished tied for 15th place, shooting a 44-42—86.

Mountain View’s Salak tied for 11th place to qualify with a 43-39—82, and Forest City’s Sparks took 12th with a 40-43—83.
