Elk Lake tops Tigers in overtime

Elk Lake’s field hockey team defeated Tunkhannock in overtime in Dimock on Saturday, 2-1.

Also last week, Elk Lake picked up a 3-0 shutout win over Montrose on Wednesday and was handed a 4-0 loss from Northwest at home on Tuesday.

Facing Tunkhannock, the Tigers struck first with a goal from Elizabeth Franko at 17:31 in the first half.

After halftime, Warrior Johnny Cron knocked in a goal with one second remaining in regulation with an assist from John Krieg to send the game into overtime.

Elk Lake’s Dylan Simmons scored with 2:15 remaining in overtime to give the Warriors the victory.

Elk Lake had 20 shots on goal and nine corners while goalie Luke Myers had four saves.

Tunkhannock had eight shots on goal and 12 corners as goalie Tara Hartman picked up 10 saves.

Against Montrose, the Warriors had three first half goals to lift the team.

Cron scored unassisted at 15:35, Trevor Gowin chipped in with 7 minutes remaining in the first half and C.J. Bevan knocked in the third goal with 3:30 left on the clock.

Elk Lake had 14 shots on goal and eight corners as Myers picked up three saves.

The Meteors took 26 shots on goal with one corner as Leah Cronk had 10 saves for Montrose.

On Tuesday, Northwest’s Ang Lewis scored a hat trick while Morgan Price added the fourth goal for the Rangers in the victory.

Elk Lake had four shots on goal and three corners while Myers had three saves.
