Hinds-Treible reach tennis semis

Montrose’s Courtney Hinds and Kayla Trieble reached the semifinals on the District II Class AA tennis championship held on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.

At Birchwood on Thursday, Hinds-Trieble faced Wyoming Seminary’s Caroline Meuser and Alyssa Joanianne in the semifinals and were handed 6-1 and 6-4 losses.

A day prior in opening round action, Hinds-Trieble faced off against Taryn Lucas-Katie Aniska from Riverside, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win to advance in play.

In the second round, Hinds-Trieble defeated Maria Fortese-Emily Hughes of Holy Cross, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Hinds-Trieble topped Grace Reilly-Elizabeth Hyers of Scranton Prep, 6-4, 6-2 to make it to the semis.

Also competing for Montrose on Wednesday was Kristy Stankiewicz and Gracee Bulger, who took a first round loss to Dunmore’s Ashley Zona and Abbey Aronica, 6-0, 6-3.

For Elk Lake, Lydia Watkins and Kyleen Sisson were handed a first round loss from Valley View’s Liz Aniska-Elena Stambone, 6-0, 6-0 to be eliminated from the competition.

Also competing for the Warriors was the duo of Leonna Noble and Megan Phillips, who were defeated in the first round by MMI Prep’s Gabriella Lobitz and Shital Patel, 6-0, 6-0.
