MU basketball starting strong

The Misericordia University men’s basketball team, featuring Mountain View graduate Robbie Johnson and Susquehanna graduate Brandon Stone, is off to a hot start.

Misericordia, an NCAA Division III team that plays in the Mid Atlantic Conference, has gotten off to a 4-0 start on the year.

The team started with an 81-70 win at Centenary on Nov. 15, followed by a 73-59 win over Baptist Bible on Nov. 19 and a 75-68 win over Marywood on Nov. 20.

Misericordia’s most recent victory came on Nov. 23, as the Cougars topped the University of Scranton, 76-66, and Johnson amassed 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Johnson has started all four of those games, averaging 17.5 points per game for the Cougars.

He is shooting at a .595 percentage rating and is one-for-four from the three-point line. In only four games, Johnson is second in scoring on the team with 70 total points.

Johnson also has five offensive and 19 defensive rebounds while amassing 10 blocks.

Stone, a freshman, hasn’t seen much playing time yet for the Cougars, coming off the bench for one minute.

Misericordia next takes on Wilkes University at home in the Anderson Athletic Center on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m.
