New Milford man killed in Bradford County crash

BY STACI WILSON

A 72-year-old New Milford man died in a dump truck crash in Bradford County last week.

Ernest Compton was driving a truck westbound on Overton Rd., in Overton Twp., Nov. 23 when the truck, which was hauling a load of stone, went off the east berm of the roadway and began to sink.

The accident occurred just after 8 a.m.

Police said Compton attempted to navigate the truck back onto the road but lost control of the vehicle, which slid down an embankment hitting trees and a fence.

The dump truck overturned. Police said the front end of the vehicle hit a tree.

Bradford County Coroner Tom Carman pronounced Compton dead at the scene.

Police said the roadway was closed for about four hours.

Pennsylvania State Trooper Joseph Mitchell investigated the crash. New Albany Fire Department, Dushore EMS and PennDOT assisted at the scene.

Compton was driving a dump truck owned by T-N-T Services Corporation, Montrose.
