Montrose schedules budget meeting

BY STACI WILSON

Montrose council will reconvene Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. to iron out details of the borough’s 2011 budget and to set the millage for the coming year.

At Monday night’s meeting, there was only a limited amount of discussion regarding the pending budget. Council is looking at the feasibility of lowering the taxes two mills in 2011.

A meeting was also scheduled for Dec. 27 for council to adopt final budget.

Council also approved a no parking ordinance on South Main St.

Council president Todd Chamberlain said the request for the adoption of the new regulation came from PennDOT.

The ordinance prohibits parking from 300 South Main St., to a point 84 feet south.

The area will be posted with no parking signs.

Based upon recommendations from the borough planning commission, council approved a subdivision of a parcel owned by Bill Baier on Bank St.

The commission also recommended granting the Susquehanna County Commissioners conditional zoning use for the 88 Chenango St. house the county purchased last year.

The county had asked for a zoning change but the commission felt a change in zoning would not be in the best interest of the residential neighborhood but a conditional variance would be acceptable.

The planning commission noted that the county did not provide any information about the hours of use, types of offices or lighting.
