Commissioners make board appointments

BY STACI WILSON

Committee and board appointments took up the bulk of the county commissioners’ business meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 8.

John Butler, Bernard Griffin and Katherine Shelly were reappointed to four-year terms, beginning Jan. 1, 2011, on the county planning commission.

Emergency Advisory Committee members were reappointed to serve from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2011.

Committee members includes: Robert Conklin, Richard Hennessey, Trent Turner, Sheriff Lance Benedict, Chad Wallace, Charles Daly, Robert Thatcher Sr., 911 director Art Donato and Emergency Management director Charlene Moser.

Robert Bartron was reappointed to a five-year term, beginning Jan. 1, 2011, on the board of directors for the Susquehanna Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

The commissioners opened the only bid received for two, steel, overhead doors for the recycling center.

The $19,200 bid came from A&B Door Contractors, of Wilkes-Barre. The price also includes the delivery and installation of the doors and was within the price range the commissioners expected.

The commissioners will review the bid to make sure it meets specifications before awarding it at a future meeting.

One bid was received by the county for bottled water and coolers. Endless Mountains Water, of Tunkhannock, submitted the bid which will be reviewed by the commissioners.

The commissioners signed a $1,260 maintenance agreement with Reed’s Generator Service, of Jackson, for inspection of preventative maintenance of on generators located at the jailhouse, courthouse, county office building, Fairgrounds (Montrose), Pig Pen Alley (Susquehanna), and the Friendsville tower.

The commissioners also agree to pay the company $55-$110 per hour for emergency repair service. Price is dependent on the day and time of an occurrence.

Cheryl Matulevich, Hop Bottom, asked the commissioners about the county’s liability regarding handicap accessibility for the lower level conference room in the county office building.

To use the lower level entrance, people must ring a buzzer and be let into the building.

Warren told her that if there was a county meeting in the conference room, someone would be available to answer the door.
