Raiders jolted by Hornets

The Blue Ridge boys’ basketball team was handed a 61-50 loss from Honesdale in the team’s first home game of the season on Friday night.

In the first, Honesdale got off to a 14-8 lead and after Blue Ridge outscored the Hornets 16-12 in the second the score stood at 26-24 going into halftime.

After the break, Honesdale came out to widen the gap with a 17-8 run over the Raiders, and after each team scored 18 in the fourth, the Hornets went home with the win.

Blue Ridge was led by Matt Principe with 19 points while Alex Cardoza dropped in 12 and Dylan Pruitt added 11.

Elk

Lake 

The Elk Lake boys’ basketball team faced a 58-43 loss at Athens on Thursday and was handed a 55-43 loss from Mid Valley in its first home game of the season on Tuesday evening.

Facing Athens, Elk Lake fell behind early as Athens paced them 14-5  in the first, and 14-7 in the second to hold a 28-12 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Elk Lake was outscored 22-15 in the third quarter, before they made a 16-8 run over Athens in the fourth. However, it wasn’t enough and the Warriors took the loss.

Rob Heft netted a game-high 17 points for the Warriors while Mark Bush had eight and Bo Bushnell chipped in six.

Against Mid Valley, the Warriors fall behind early as the Spartans outscored them 21-13 in the first, and followed it up with an 11-10 run in the second to make it a 32-23 game at the half.

After halftime, Elk Lake fought back to lead the Spartans 12-7 in the third, however, Mid Valley paced the Warriors 16-8 in the fourth to finish off a victory.

Elk Lake was led by Heft with 18 points while Bryan Grosvenor dropped in seven points for the Warriors.

Forest City

The Forest City boys’ varsity basketball team faced a 64-50 loss to North Pocono at home on Wednesday.

In the first quarter, North Pocono jumped ahead as they outscored Forest City 22-7. Second quarter action saw both teams score 12 to make it a 34-19 game at the half.

After halftime, The Trojans came out to pace Forest City 17-11, and despite a late 20-13 run from the Foresters, North Pocono took the win.

Forest City was led by Joe Caruso with 26 points while Zack Mendoz put in seven points.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s boys’ basketball team faced a 56-31 loss to Old Forge on the road Friday and took a 59-45 loss from Honesdale at home on Wednesday evening.

On Friday, Mountain View fell behind the Blue Devils 16-5 in the first quarter and trailed 33-13 at halftime.

After the half, Old Forge outscored the Eagles 8-6 in the third and 15-12 in the fourth to take the win.

Mountain View was led by Julian Williams and Chris Herman who knocked in seven apiece.

In the first, Honesdale got ahead 14-5 over the Eagles, before Mountain View would strike back with an 18-11 run in the second to bring the tally to 25-23 at halftime.

After the break, Honesdale outscored the Eagles 17-13 to widen to gap, and capped off a win with a 17-9 fourth.

Mountain View was led by Jon Chipelo with 12 points while Williams tossed in 10.

Montrose

Montrose Area’s boys’ basketball team picked up a 50-43 victory over Wyalusing on the road on Wednesday.

Montrose fell behind early as the Rams outscored them 12-8 in the first quarter. However, Montrose’s 19-5 run in the second quarter put them on the map and gave the Meteors a 27-17 lead at halftime.

The Meteors came out after halftime to pace the Rams 14-13 in the third quarter, and despite a 13-9 run by the Rams in the fourth, Montrose took the win.

The Meteors were led by Colby Major who scored 17 and Billy Stranburg who added 12. Steve Squires put in 11 points for the Meteors and Cole Wheaton chipped in six.

Susquehanna

Susquehanna’s boys’ basketball team took a 66-59 win over West Side Tech at home on Friday after it was handed a 61-33 loss from Wyalusing on the road on Thursday evening.

Facing West Side, Susquehanna got ahead 18-13 after the first quarter and despite being outscored 19-17 in the second, held a 35-32 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Susquehanna continued to lead the way with a 15-11 run over West Side, and after a fourth that saw each team score 16, the Sabers brought home the win.

Andrzej Tomczyk poured in 26 points while Taylor Cundey had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Austin Cowperthwait had 13 points.

Against Wyalusing, the Sabers fell behind after the first quarter, where the Rams outscored then 11-8, before pacing the Sabers 14-7 in the second to hold a 25-15 lead at the half.

After halftime, Susquehanna was outscored 21-8 by Wyalusing and were finished off with a 15-10 run by the Rams in the final minutes.

Susquehanna was led by Tomcyk’s nine points and Cundey’s eight.
