Holiday tourneys on tap

On Dec. 29, the girls’ county title game is at 6 and the boys’ title game is at 7:30.

The Community Foundation of Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties will again sponsor boys and girls basketball tournaments between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

This year is the fifth year that the organization has sponsored the Susquehanna County Basketball Tournament by managing a scholarship endowment for players on the teams involved.

Proceeds from ticket sales and donations will benefit the college scholarship.

The setting for the boys’ tournament this year is Montrose Area High School, and the tournament will take place starting on Monday, Dec. 27, at 6 p.m. with the final game being held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

Teams involved in the boys’ tournament include Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Montrose Area and Susquehanna.

Monday’s 6 p.m. game will see Elk Lake take on Susquehanna, while the 7:30 p.m. game has Blue Ridge taking on Montrose. On Wednesday, the boys’ consolation game will be held first at 3:30 p.m. followed by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

On the girls’ side, the tournament will also be held at Montrose Area High School on Monday, Dec. 27, and Wednesday, Dec. 29, with action starting at 2 p.m. both days.

Girls’ teams involved are Elk Lake, Susquehanna, Blue Ridge and Montrose Area.

Monday’s 2 p.m. game sees Elk Lake taking on Susquehanna, followed by Blue Ridge facing Montrose at 3:30 p.m., while on Wednesday, the girls’ consolation game is taking place at 2 p.m., followed by the girls’ championship at 6 p.m.

Director of Development for the Community Foundation Peter Quigg said that tax deductible donations can be made year round to the scholarship endowment.

Checks can be made out to the “Basketball Tournament Fund,” and mailed to 36 Lake Avenue, Montrose, PA 18801.

Ticket prices for the tournaments are $4 for adults per night, $2 for students and $3 for senior citizens.
