Sheriff’s Dept. adds new deputy position

A new deputy position was added in the Sheriff’s Department by the county salary board at its Jan. 12 meeting.

The board also approved the 2011 miscellaneous compensation schedule.

The compensation change adjusted the on-call rate for adult and juvenile probation to $180 to $200 bringing it on par with Children and Youth’s on-call pay.

The salary board is comprised of the county commissioners, treasurer and chief clerk.

The county is looking to re-carpet several areas of the county courthouse.

The commissioners opened bids for the carpeting at the Jan. 12 meeting.

Chief Clerk Sylvia Beamer said that there was a big difference in the bid amounts. The commissioners will be carefully reviewing the bids to make sure the county is comparing “apples to apples,” said Beamer.

The county is also selling two printers – an IBM Printer 24, Machine Type 4324 and a Genicom 4490XT – both valued under $1,000. Sealed bids will be accepted for 10 days. If no bids are received, the printers will be recycled.

Mary Heron was terminated from her position in the 911 department, effective Jan. 11.

Jerry Fives and Jim Krupinski were reappointed to one-year terms on the Susquehanna County Emergency Advisory Committee, effective Jan. 1.

The retirement board set the rate of interest at 4 percent to be credited to the member contribution accounts in the Susquehanna County Employee Retirement Plan for 2011. By law, the contribution rate must range between, 4-5.5 percent.

The board also voted against giving retirees a cost of living increase.

Seneca Group consultants, who manage the county’s pension fund, met with the board.

It was reported the county’s portfolio has risen over $1 million since the September meeting.
