The Montrose Area softball team grabbed an 18-0 win over Lake-Lehman on the road on Friday in the District II Class AA quarterfinals after a 7-4 first round win over Holy Cross at home on Tuesday evening
Facing Lake-Lehman, Montrose got the job done in five innings as the Meteors scored nine runs in the second inning, two in the third and seven in the fifth while holding the Knights scoreless.
Dallas Ely and Katie Groover each had two hits and two RBIs. Sara Krupinski drove in three runs and every starter scored an had an RBI in support of winning pitcher Andrea Hinds, who fanned five batters and tossed a two-hitter. Sarah Feeney tripled for Montrose.
Against Holy Cross, Brooke Malloy had two hits and drove in four runs to lead the Lady Meteors’ victory.
The Meteors got on the board early with three runs in the first before Holy Cross would even the score with a run in the second and a pair of runs in the top of the third.
However, Montrose gained back its lead with a run scored in each of the third and fourth innings.
The Crusaders brought the game within one in the fifth inning at 5-4, but a pair of insurance runs from the Meteors in the fifth sealed the win.
Sam Dixon added a pair of hits and an RBI and Groover knocked a triple and drove in a run for the Meteors.
Hinds took the pitching win giving up 10 hits, four earned runs and a pair of walks while striking out seven in seven innings.
