Father, child injured in Ararat fire

A man and his young child were taken to the hospital Saturday after both were injured in a house fire in Ararat Township.

Firefighters from Thompson Hose Company arrived at the mobile home on May Road, Ararat Twp. about 9:11 p.m.

Both Jason Bedford and the 1-year-old had suffered serious burns and were taken toCommunityMedicalCenter, according to First Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Callender. They were later transferred to theLehighValleyBurn Center.

Their conditions were not available Sunday night.

Red Cross volunteers helped the family find temporary shelter and will provide clothing and other necessities, according to Brian Wrightson, emergency services director for the American Red Cross ofLackawannaCounty.

Callender said the fire was under investigation by state police.
