FC girls defeat Montrose

The Forest City girls’ soccer team took a 4-1 win over Montrose at Carbondale on Friday afternoon to advance to the District II Class A semifinals.

Carly Erdmann and Megan Goben each had a goal and an assist as Forest City scored four unanswered goals to beat Montrose.

Montrose’s Lindsey Gregory scored just 1:44 into the game to give Montrose a quick 1-0 lead. But after that, it was all Forest City.

“They came right out and we were a little flat,” Forest City coach Ken Goben said. ‘But once they scored, our girls got right back in it. We started playing our game and dominated. We had possession for 39 minutes in the first half alone.”

Cassandra Bendyk pulled the Lady Foresters even off an assist from Erdmann at 6:35. Erdman then scored at 20:40 to make it 2-1.

Megan Goben’s goal at 44:08 extended the margin to 3-1. She then set up Taylor-Ray Tammero at the 60-minute mark to cap the scoring.

Forest City (11-2) advances to face unbeaten Mountain View (13-0) in Thursday’s final.

Forest City had 19 shots on goal and seven corners while Montrose had seven shots and three corners.

Kaylie Gigliotti had six saves for the Forestesr while Anna Churco had eight for the Meteors.
