On Monday night, a pair ofMountain Viewteams advanced to the District II Class A finals with victories over their respective opponents.
Mountain View’s girls’ volleyball team defeated Susquehanna, 3-2, to move on in the title race, while the Eagle boys’ soccer team took a 4-0 win over Wyoming Seminary to advance.
In volleyball action, Dominique Chadwick had nine kills and six digs in the victory atLackawannaTrailHigh School.
Meeting for the third time this season, the Lady Eagles again outlasted Susquehanna, in five games, winning the deciding one by a count of 15-11.
Mountain Viewwill get a rematch with top-seeded Lackawanna Trail today (Nov. 2) atMarywoodUniversityin the final at7 p.m.
“We knew going into it that it would go five games,”Mountain Viewcoach Abby Barrett said. “We got early momentum going in that fifth game and we played together in that game and they knew they wanted it.”
Mountain Viewgot off to a good start, winning the first game, 26-24. But the teams traded the next three games to set up a third match that extended to a fifth game for the two rivals.
Melissa Monahan had five kills and two blocks to sparkMountain View, which is into the final for the second straight season.
Kerry Jarnagin had nine assists and Taylor Nally added five assists for the Lady Eagles (8-6).
Devin Breese had seven kills and five aces, Danielle Barnes had five kills and five aces and Alexis Roe had three kills and four aces for Susquehanna (7-7).
Trail defeated MMI Prep 3-0 on Monday night to move on to face the Eagles in the finals.
In boys’ soccer, Colby Thomas scored a pair of first half goals, one with an assist from Ed Bognatz, and the other assisted by Zeb Cross in the 4-0 win.
Z. Cross then notched a goal of his own, assisted by Colin Davis at the 24 minute mark.
Mountain Viewthen added a goal from Izzy Cross, assisted by Zach Feduchak, at the 69 minute mark to seal the victory.
Mountain Viewhad 15 shots on goal and four corners while goalie Bob Pfahl had two saves.
The Eagles move on to face Holy Cross in the finals, taking place atScrantonHigh Schoolat7:30 p.m.on Thursday.
