Several varsity soccer players from SusquehannaCountyhave been named to the Scranton Times-Tribune All-Region team.
On the boys’ side,Mountain View’s Colby Thomas and Dylan Thomas andForestCity’s Dave Cavalieri were selected.
C. Thomas, a sophomore, had 31 goals and eight assists to earn his first selection. He was a 2010 Division I second-team all-star and a 2011 first-team all-star. He led Division I in points (52)_ and had two goals in PIAA Class A quarterfinal to lift the Eagles of Schuylkill Haven, 2-1.
D. Thomas, a junior defender, had four goals and 19 assists to earn his first all-region selection. He is a 2011 Division I first-team all-star and led the Eagles defense that had 10 shutouts through the regular season and District II Class A playoffs and gave up only one goal in the first round of states.
Cavalieri, a senior atForestCity, scored 19 goals and had 10 assists to earn his first all-region selection. He is a first-team all-star midfielder. He scored on a penalty kick to seal the Foresters’ 3-0 win over Meyers in the District II Class A quarterfinals. He scored six goals in a 9-1 win overDunmoreon Oct. 8 to record his 50th career goal.
On the girls’ side, Mountain View’s Jenny Molenko and Alix Taylor, along with Montrose’s Katie Groover andForestCity’s Kylie Borick were all selected.
Molenko, a sophomore forward, had 24 goals and eight assists for the Eagles to earn her first selection. She is a 23011 Division II first-team all-star and scored in 11 games and recorded a hat trick in six of them. She assisted teammate Sarah Pulice’s game-tying goal in the District II Class A final to send the game into overtime.
Taylor, a senior midfielder, had 12 goals and 12 assists to earn her first all-region selection. She is a 2010 Division II/III first-team all-star and a 2011 Division II first-team all-star. She scored the game winning penalty kick in the second overtime to lift the Lady Eagles overLakelandin the District II Class A semifinal.
Groover, a senior defender, had one goal on the year and earned her first all-region selection by anchoring the Lady meteor defense that allowed 11 goals through the regular season and four in the District 2 Class A semifinal. Her lone goal was a penalty kick in a win overCarbondalein October.
Borick, a junior defender, earned her first all-region selection and had three goals and eight assists on the year. She is a 2010 Division II/III first-team all-star and a 2011 Division II second-team all-star. She is an integral part of the Lady Foresters defense that gave up just nine goals through the regular season and three in the District II Class A playoffs.
