Christmas fest takes over Montrose

Santa met with Rachael Zona, Arithia Nicholson and Rebecca Perkins on Saturday in Montrose to discuss their Christmas wish lists.

A variety of Montrose area community Christmas events joined forces this year under one banner, bringing the first Montrose Christmas Festival to the town.

Tom Follert, of Chocolates by Leopold, said, “Everybody had their own event going on. It was nice to bring them together with a few joint activities – like the Christmas tree lighting and Santa at the courthouse – which made it one big event instead of several small, separate events.

Follert offered thanks to Brittany Thomas and George Stark of Cabot Oil & Gas for bringing their organizational help to the festival.

Follert said, It was a really nice weekend. We had a lot of people in town.”

At the Chocolates by Leopold shop onChurch St., Follert said weekend business was good and there were a lot of new faces in the store. “Which is what we like to see,” he said.

True Friends Animal Welfare Center director Dory Browning, along with Willy, Irish and Boomer, took in the Christmas activities Saturday afternoon.

Chocolates by Leopold held the annual Santa Roll on Friday evening.

The three-foot tall, 26-pound, milk chocolate Santa was hand decorated by chocolatier Leopold Schreiber and is being raffled off with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the Susquehanna County Library.

Raffle tickets are available at Chocolates by Leopold and will also soon be available at other local merchants and the library.

The community Christmas tree was lit Friday night by Montrose Mayor John Wilson as holiday revelers sang carols at the ceremony.
