Steve Welch, aChesterCountyresident asking for the opportunity to oppose Senator Bob Casey in the November election, was one of the speakers at the Susquehanna County Lincoln Day Dinner held on February 18, at American Legion, Post 154,ElkLake.

“Casey is nothing but a rubber stamp of President Obama and I can’t sit around and see them ruin our country,” Welch said. We can make this country better than when we started and I will work to get us back on track, he added.

Also speaking were State Committeeman Michael Redding; Senators Lisa Baker and Gene Yaw; State Reps. Sandra Major and Tina Pickett; Convention Delegates Donna Cosmello and Mike Harris; Young Republican President Matt Fearnley.
Senator Yaw said there are currently six senators involved in Marcellus Shale issues and are working together on bills covering land owners environmental issues.

“We have made a major effort to resolve flood issues but we see things differently than DEP,” Yaw said. People know what happens when streams are not cleaned out, he said.

Major, presently serving as Chairman of the Republican Caucus, congratulated Joyce Cobb for receiving the Jack Masters Award. “You are the one who gets out to see people,” Major said.

She also remarked on Donna Cosmello’s bid for delegate to the National Convention, saying  Donna has worked tirelessly for the Republican party while wearing many hats. Cosmello is former CountyChair; former President of County Republican Women and is Pa Federation of Republican Women board member.
Major stressed the fact that the “Corbett Budget” is only a proposed budget not the final budget that will reduce state government. She also spoke of the legislation regarding the gas industry impact fee as not being perfect but it was important to find a balance.

She drew a laugh when she said she wanted everyone to know she is not old at 57 or worn out regardless of what has been suggested by some people.

Major also thanked John Kameen for his leadership of the county’s Republican Party.

Representative Tina Pickett congratulated Joyce Cobb and the “C” Club. It had been announced by Kameen the county’s “C” Club, the financial arm of the local party, has $1,600 to contribute toward election advertising.  “If I am successful in my bid for re-election, I will be a committee chair, Pickett said. “I will work to take a lot of state mandates off the books, makingPennsylvaniaa stronger state.”

Matt Fearnley invited people to join the Young Republicans at the Orininal Pizza in Montrose for their monthly meetings and to take part in the club’s fund raiser, a miniature golf tournament scheduled for June 23.

Energy Citizens representative Ray Noarhood encouraged those attending to join the organization that had a display and free membership applications at the dinner. According to information made available by Energy Citizen’s display, members are willing to raise their voice to support energy policies that create jobs, drive economic growth, and insure America’s energy security.

Kameen served as master of ceremonies and noted, “We are nine months away from the Presidential election and the road to the White House runs throughPennsylvania. Our state with 72 delegates is the most important state.”
