Montrose Area senior Dallas Ely has been named Player of the Year on the Scranton Times-Tribune All-Region Girls’ Basketball Team.
In addition, Montrose head coach Al Smith has been named the 2012 All-Region Girls’ Coach of the Year.
Acrobatic and agile, Ely beat teams with her ability to quickly load up a 3-pointer, drive to the basket or dish to a teammate.
She is the Lackawanna Division III Player of the Year for the third consecutive season, averaging 22.3 points per game, 26.5 in four PIAA playoff contests.
The 5-foot-8 Ely is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,815 points and all-time leader in three-point shooting with 192.
Teams Ely was a part of won three straight league championships.
Smith, in his fourth season with the Meteors, guided them to a third straight Lackawanna Division III title, its first District II Class AA crown since 2003, and first state tournament berth since 2006.
Once there, Smith coach the Meteor team above its skill set, topping teams with superior overall talent, and reaching the state semifinals.
