Ivy League honors Darling

ColumbiaUniversityfreshman pitcher Brooke Darling (ElkLake) was named the Ivy League softball Rookie of the Week for the period of March 26-April 1.

Darling was chosen after she pitched three complete games, going 2-1 with a 2.33 earned-run average and 11 strikeouts.

On March 28 in the second game of a doubleheader againstRiderUniversity, Darling tossed a five-hit shutout with one walk and four strikeouts in a 3-0 win. She threw just 78 pitches – 58 for strikes.

Then on March 30, Darling won her first career Ivy League start, 4-1, over Yale in the first game of a doubleheader. She allowed six hits, walked three and struck out three.

In a doubleheader sweep atDartmouthon Saturday, Darling was the winning pitcher in both games. She tossed a four-hit shutout in the opener, 9-0, with four walks and four strikeouts. Then in the nightcap, she allowed one run on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts in a 7-1 victory.

For the season, Darling is 6-11 with a 4.01 ERA and two shutouts in 22 games.Columbiais 9-22 overall and 3-5 in the Ivy League.
