Eagles hand Raiders first loss

Mountain View’s softball team traveled to Blue Ridge on Thursday where the Eagles handed the Raiders a 6-5 loss in Division III action.

The Eagles got on the board early with a run in the first, beforeBlue Ridgewould tie things up at one apiece in the second and take a 2-1 after the fourth.

However,Mountain Viewstruck back with a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.Blue Ridgethen scored three runs in the sixth to make it a 5-3 game.

Mountain Viewthen used a three-run seventh inning to seal the 6-5 victory.

Jenny Molenko hit a home run on the second pitch of the game and Megan Stenzhorn also

went deep as Mountain View took the win.

Stenzhorn had two hits and two RBIs and Megan Getz also drove in two runs.

Caitlyn Tague took the pitching victory giving up five hits, three earned runs and four walks while striking out six in seven innings.

Allison Coller doubled for the Raiders, Taylor Decker tripled and drove in a run. Jackie Furch took the pitching loss.

Also last week, on Tuesday afternoon, the Eagles were handed an 8-7 loss against Lackawanna Trail.

The Lions got ahead early with a run in the first and third before Mountain View scored six in the fourth to take the lead.

Trail then answered back with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it a 6-5 game.

Mountain View pulled ahead to 7-5 in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Lions won on a walk-off bases clearing double by Gabby Truesdale in the bottom of the seventh.

Mountain View was led by Stenzhorn with a pair of hits while Tague took the pitching loss giving up four hits, five earned runs and seven walks while striking out five in six innings in the circle.

Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge’s Jackie Furch fired a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts to leadBlue Ridgein a 3-0 win over Susquehanna in a Lackawanna League Division III softball game inNew Milfordon Tuesday.

The Raiders scored one run in the second and two in the third as Furch held off all Saber offense to take the win.

She also tripled for the Lady Raiders who scored on a groundout in the second and Taylor Decker’s two-run homer in the third.

Adding hits for the Raiders were Jenna Rupakus, Carpenter and Yachymiak.

Micaela Rhone took the loss for Susquehanna giving up five hits, three earned runs and two walks while striking out 10 in six innings.

Montrose

The Montrose Area softball team faced its first loss of the season at home on Monday as they were defeated 10-8 by Lackawanna Trail.

Earlier in the week the Meteors picked up a 4-0 victory at Susquehanna on Thursday after it handedWestern Waynea 7-3 loss on the road on Tuesday.

On Monday, Trail came out ahead to score three in the first before the Meteors scored a pair in the second.

The Lions then scored one in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth to make it a 10-2 game.

Despite a run in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh, Montrose fell short of overcoming the early deficit.

Katie Trecoske homered and tripled for the Meteors whiel Katie Groover tripled and drove in three runs. Dallas Ely had a single, scored a run and drove in a run.

Lacy Neely took the pitching loss, giving up 14 hits, four earned runs and one walk while striking out four in seven innings.

Against Susquehanna, Trecoske had two hits that included a double and drove in a run to lead Montrose.

Neely threw a complete game four-hitter with six strikeouts.

Nicole Barnes doubled for the Sabers while Mashawna Hargett had a pair of singles.

On Tuesday, the Meteors scored three in the first and four in the third to take a 7-0 lead beforeWestern Waynepicked up three runs in the bottom of the third.

However, Montrose silencedWestern Wayneoffense as Lacy Neely fired seven innings while giving up five hits, three runs and one walk and striking out six.

Groover hit a two-run homer and also singled and Ely, Shelby Stewart and Brooke Malloy all joined in with hits.

Elk Lake

ElkLake’s softball team grabbed a 12-2 victory atWestern Wayneon Thursday after it picked up its first win of the season with an 8-2 triumph overForestCityat home on Tuesday.

AgainstWestern Wayne, Casey Tyler had three hits, including a triple and scored twice to lead the Warriors.

Debbie Harvey took the pitching win giving up six hits, two earned runs and two walks while striking out six in a complete game outing.

Faith Kwiatkowski, Sara Kwiatkowski and Becca Phillips each added doubles for the winners.

On Tuesday, the Warriors got ahead early with a run in the second and added another in the fourth before scoring four in the fifth to hold a 6-0 lead.

ForestCitypicked up a run in the top of the sixth beforeElkLakeadded two more.

Sara Kwiatkowski tripled and drove in three runs to lead the Warriors while Laura Gacha and Faith Kwiatkowski each singled and drove in a run.

Debbie Harvey took the pitching win giving up three hits and no earned runs while walking two with six strikeouts over seven innings.

ForestCity’s Katherine Pecko doubled and Ennis singled and drove in a run to lead the Foresters while Yates took the pitching loss.

Forest City

TheForestCitysoftball team was handed a 12-2 loss from Lackawanna Trail on Thursday afternoon at Tunnel Hill.

The Lions got ahead4-0 after tworuns in the second and another two in the third.

ForestCityanswered back with what would be its only two runs of the game in the fourth inning to make it 4-2.

However, Trail finished off the Foresters in five innings, scoring five in the fourth in three in the fifth to take the mercy-rule victory.

ForestCity’s Yates took the pitching loss, giving up 10 hits, eight earned runs and a walk over four innings.

Emily Zerby tripled and drove in a run forForestCitywhile O’Neill and Martines each added singles.
