Montrose boys tops in battle of unbeatens

In a battle of unbeatens, the Montrose Area baseball team handed Lackawanna Trail its first loss of the season in a game at home on Monday.

Mike Rapisardi’s double broke a tie game in the bottom of the sixth inning and propelled the Meteors to a Division III victory.

Matt Sobiech added a single to score Rapisardi later in the sixth to provide Montrose with an insurance run.

In the top of the sixth, Montrose pulled off a triple play. Lackawanna Trail had runners on first and second with no outs. The Meteors turned a 6-4-3 double play, and when the Trail runner on second base tried to score, he was called out for not sliding and colliding with the catcher.

Jared Winn took the pitching victory for the Meteors, giving up two hits and one earned run in one and a third innings while striking out four.

Also last week, the Meteors took a 3-1 victory at Susquehanna on Thursday and a 5-0 shutout victory overWestern Wayneon the road on Tuesday.

Against Susquehanna, Winn fired a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Casey O’Reilly hit a three-run homer to give the Meteors the win.

For Susquehanna, Vinca Matta knocked a double while Austin Cowperthwait took the pitching loss giving up nine hits, three earned runs and no walks while striking out four in seven innings.

On Tuesday, the Meteors got on the board early with a run in the first before adding to in the second to make it 3-0.

Montrose then added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to take the victory.

Rapisardi threw seven shutout innings giving up five hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.

Matt Lewis doubled while Matt Harder had a pair of hits and drove in two runs and Casey O’Reilly had a hit and a RBI.

Elk Lake

Elk Lake’s baseball team took a 3-2 win over Western Wayne on the road on Thursday after the team grabbed a 4-2 victory over Forest City on Tuesday afternoon at home in a Division III matchup.

AgainstWestern Wayne, Nick Dudock had two hits, including a double and drove in a run. Matt Horvath also drove in a run and Harold Wehler doubled forElkLake.

Damian Dailey took the pitching win for the Warriors, giving up two earned runs in five innings on the mound.

Dudock threw two innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout and no earned runs while walking two.

On Tuesday, the Warriors got ahead early with a pair of runs in the second before scoring another in the third to make it 3-0 going into the fourth.

ForestCitythreatened with a pair of runs in the fourth, butElkLakeadded an insurance run in the fifth and held the Foresters off.

Dudock doubled and tripled while Damian Dailey drove in a pair of runs on one hit to pace the Warriors. Adam Phillips added a double.

Ricky Guiton took the pitching win giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out two in five innings.

ForestCityhad hits from Nick Fedak and Logan Fitzsimmons. Fitzsimmons added a RBI.

DeEsch took the pitching loss giving up seven hits, three earned runs and a walk while striking out five in six innings.

Susquehanna

The Susquehanna baseball team rallied in the seventh inning to take a 6-3 victory overBlue Ridgeon the road on Tuesday.

The Sabers took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, butBlue Ridgescored in the second to make it 2-1. The Sabers added a third run to make it 3-1 in the third, before the Raiders would come closer at 3-2 after the third.

The Raiders then tied things up at three apiece with a run in the fifth. However, Susquehanna used a big seventh inning with three runs to take the win.

Christian Miller had two RBIs for the Sabers while Austin Felter doubled. Greg Price had a hit and a RBI while Tom Maby added a pair of singles.

Austin Cowperthwait took the pitching win giving up no hits, one walk and three strikeouts in two innings on the mound.

Blue Ridge’s Riley Fekette doubled while Joey Zawiski had a pair of hits and drove in a run.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s baseball team grabbed an 11-4 victory overBlue Ridgeon the road on Thursday after the team was handed a 9-4 loss from Lackawanna Trail on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

Against Blue Ridge, Mike Wakalowski had three hits including two doubles and drove in five runs to lead the Eagles.

Wakalowski also took the pitching victory giving up six hits, two earned runs and five walks whiles striking out five in six innings on the mound.

Joey Zawiski had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice for the Raiders in the loss.

On Tuesday, the Lions got an early lead as they scored a run in the first, three in the second and another in the third to pace the Eagles 5-1 going into the fourth.

Mountain View put two on the board in the fourth, one in the fifth and another in the sixth to bring the tally to 5-4, but Trail used a four run sixth inning to put the game away for good.

Mountain View’s Colby Thomas had the Eagles’ only hit of the game while the Eagles scored its other runs on walks and errors.

Wakalowski took the pitching loss giving up six hits, four earned runs and a walk in two and two-thirds innings.

Forest City

ForestCity’s baseball team faced a 10-0 loss in five innings from Lackawanna Trail at Tunnel Hill on Thursday.

The Lions scored five runs in the first inning, two in the fourth in three in the fifth to win on the 10-run mercy rule.

Hartman took the pitching loss forForestCitygiving up three hits, five earned runs and two walks in two-thirds on an inning on the mound.
