Ofsharick named BPW Girl of Year

SusquehannaCommunityHigh School’s valedictorian was honored by the Nellie Jane DeWitt Business and Professional Womens Club as its Girl of the Year.
Morgan Ofsharick plans to attendOldLymeAcademy inConnecticut  majoring  in art education/illustration.

While attendingSCHS, Ofsharick participated in marching band, drama club, environthon, and was named WVIA artist of the week,  NEIU scholar of the year and was a member of the National Honor Society and Scholastic Bowl team.

Described as someone who works hard at being an artist by her art teacher, Ofsharick received flowers, and gifts from the committee, Alice Deutsch, Carol Dubas and Ethel Boccafogli and citations from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Sandra Major, Susquehanna County Commissioners and the BPW.

The honoree thanked  everyone for the honor and spoke of her plans for the future. Morgan’s mother said, “Morgan has been my ‘Girl of the Year’ for 18 years and we feel very fortunate to have had Ms Jime Grabowski as Morgan’s teacher for the past four years.”

Her father expressed his pride in all his daughter’s accomplishments, also thanked Grabowski for all she has done for her students while atSCHSand said to the club members, “as you honor her, you honor me.”

Grabowski has resigned her position atSCHSand will leave for westernUSAat the end of the school year.

During the club’s business meeting the members voted to honor a request from Lindsey Glidden for a donation toward her attending National Youth Leadership in Philadelphia.
Darlene Slocum, chairman of the Educational Loan Fund, reported there has been no interest in this program for the past five years and suggested the club discontinue making this available to graduates. Clmb members agreed to discontinue this program. The account has a balance of $1,918.00 and the disposition of this money will be decided at a later date.
Sarah Holmes gave her report on District Eight Spring  Conference. Sarah came home from Conference with theGOLD. She has been selected to represent District Eight as their candidate for Young Careerist at State Convention.

A slate of officers for the coming club year was approved as follows: President Colleen Wilkes; Vice-president Linda Beford;  Secretary Sarah Holmes; Treasurer Tina Roe.

Club members voted overwhelmingly to continue to hold their meetings at Bill’s Hilltop.
