Susquehanna holds class night

Superintendent Bronson Stone openedSusquehannaCommunityHigh School Class Night 2012 held on Friday, June 1, by listing all the things making this class unique.

Introduced  by Class President Mary Kemmerer, Stone said that over 90 percent of the students that started 9th grade will graduate on time as compared with the national average of 70 percent. Seventy-five percent of graduates will attend an institution of higher learning. The seven members of the class who have enlisted in the military were recognized. Stone announced that over the next four years this class will receive over $66,000 in scholarship awards.

Other achievements by class members included: Times-Tribune Scholar of the Year(Morgan Ofsharick); WVIA’s Artists of the Week(Morgan Ofsharick); one Eagle Scout (George Wilkes); one student with perfect attendance since entering kindergarten (Jeffrey Wayman). According to Stone that is 2,340 days.  Numerous students realized achievement in the sports arena that included football, wrestling and volleyball. The scholastic awards will be announced at graduation on June 9.

This class will go down in history as the class most needing an alarm clock as there were 178 reports for being tardy, Stone said. This led to the school board making revisions in the attendance policy that covers tardiness. Before Stone relinquished the mike to the seniors, he wished them well as they leaveSCHSto make their way in an ever changing world.

The athletic and scholastic awards were presented by seniors David M. Hansen; Thomas Maby;  Stephanie Skurski;  Alexandria Dominick; Jeffrey Wayman and Courtney Arthur to 60 members of the graduation class attending Class Night. Fifty civic and fraternal organizations, individuals, businesses and family foundations contributed to the generous scholarships awarded to members of the Class of 2012.

Class Vice-president Courtney Arthur passed the mantel to Class of 2013 Vice-president Kyleigh Fiske just prior to the singing of the school’s  Alma Mater.

Musical performances were by Jeffrey Keyes (processional and recessional); David M. Hansen, Derek Case, Clayton Hansen.

Kyleigh Fiske, Lindsey Glidden, Melissa Kukowski and Chelsea Matta were in charge of programs while Daniel Biegert, Derek Case, Coleman Hansen and William Terpstra   ushered.
