FC Cal Ripken teams enter District 5 championship

For the first time in history all three Forest City All-Star teams have made it to the PA Cal Ripken District 5 Championships and qualified for their respective state tournaments.

The 11’s qualified first on the weekend with a 12-2 win over Wyalusing atKennedyParkin the semi finals, then finished runner-up to Honesdale with an 8-1 loss in the Championship.

On Monday atDelawareValleyForestCity’s 12’s eliminated Honesdale with a 15-1 win, then finished runner-up toDelawareValleyposting a 10-0 loss on Tuesday in the Championship.

Just to get to the semi-finals the 12’s found themselves in an epic pitcher’s duel with Valley View. With the score 0-0 in the bottom of the 6th, RJ Kuruts worked the count to 3-2 then got the pitch he was looking for blasting a walk-off homerun to seal the win and vault FC into the semi finals.

Wednesday found the Forest City 9’s in a semi final battle withDelawareValleyat Waymart. The 9’s prevailed 17-7 and will face Honesdale this evening for the District 5 Championship.

By qualifying three teams,ForestCitylooks to be the big winner in District play this year,DelawareValleyand Honesdale will be sending two teams each, while Valley View qualified one team.

The 12’s will travel toSpringfield, for the weekend for July 6 and on July 13. The 11’s will head toWarrington, the 9’s will be at East Brandywine.
