Stolen Dimock signs recovered

Two “Welcome to Dimock Township” wooden signs on Route 29  were retrieved and re-installed recently after several teens cut them down and hid them in a garage, according to supervisor Matt Neenan.

The vandals paid for the costs of repairing the signs as well as for the $100 reward, supervisors said Monday night at the township meeting.

The painted wood signs were paid for and erected by the Dimock Community Workers about six or seven years ago.

One is located on Route 29 northbound near the Heitsman property, on the right coming from Springville. The other is located near the Woodbourne Wildlife Sanctuary on southbound 29 coming from South Montrose.

Both signs went missing just before April Fool’s Day. Two cut posts were all that remained at the Heitsman site; the Woodbourne area signposts were tossed into the woods.

Years ago, one of the original signs was taken and vandalized, LeJune Ely, a member of the Dimock Community Workers, said.

Ida and Rhody Rhodes found the previous sign after it was broken and discarded in the brush, and paid for its replacement.

The price for the signs was quoted at $500-$750, one resident said. The Pennsylvania State Police at the Gibson Barracks were able to retrieve the signs after investigating a tip from one of the perpetrator’s parents.
