Heroin deal nets new charges

New drug trafficking charges have been leveled against anOaklandman after he allegedly sold a brick of heroin to a police informant in March.

Steven Whritenour, 31, who was charged with felony possession and felony possession with intent to deliver after state parole officers found heroin in hisState St.home on May 31, now faces similar charges filed by PSP, Vice unit officers andSusquehannaCountydetectives in connection with a March incident.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Whritenour spoke with a police operative about the purchase of a brick of heroin. A brick consists of 50 packets of the narcotic.

The operative went to Whritenour’s residence and gave the man $500 in exchange for 50 packets of heroin and two grams of cocaine.

Both the heroin and cocaine field tested positive and were entered into evidence by police, according to the complaint.

In addition to the possession and possession with intent to deliver charges, Whritenour was also charged with a felony count of criminal use of a communication facility for using his phone to facilitate a drug transaction.

A preliminary hearing in New Milford District Court on the latest charges was continued from Monday, Aug. 13 to Aug. 27.

Whritenour has been held on $150,000 bail since charges were filed stemming from the May 31 incident. Those charges were bound over for trial in the Susquehanna County Court of Common Pleas after Whritenour waived his scheduled June 11 preliminary hearing in front of District Judge Jodi Cordner.

Whritenour’s wife, Shawna, 29, also faces charges in connection with the May 31 drug find. She waived her preliminary hearing, was released on unsecured bail; and is now awaiting trial in the Susquehanna County Court of Common Pleas.
