Meteor tennis seeks improvement

BY KEVIN WOODRUFF

Montrose Area’s girls’ tennis team returns this fall after a 6-6 campaign in 2011 under new head coach Anne Mory.

The team returns six starters to the roster in seniors Megan Hinds, Ceara Hartman and Lizzy Escobar along with juniors Anna Ruseski, Jennifer Reed and Holly Andre.

The team lost just one senior to graduation in Gracee Rose Bulger-Oakley.

Mory said she is looking to have a fun first season at the helm.

“I hope the girls have fun, work hard and improve our record from last year,” Mory said.

Mory said the Meteors will be facing a few new teams this season that will provide a challenge.

“We will be facing some new teams this year and many will be tough,” Mory said. “But Scranton Prep will most likely dominate.”

The Meteors will look to Megan Hinds to provide a solid backbone for the Meteor team.

“She is a fighter and had some long close matches last year,” Mory said. “She has been working hard in the offseason and I expect her to do very well this year.”

The Montrose varsity girls’ tennis team is comprised of seniors Hinds, Hartman, Escobar and Kila Riley, juniors Ruseski, Reed, Andre, Erica Reeves, sophomore Megan Myers and freshmen Victoria Hinds, Allie Arnold, Katie Wurth and Kaitlyn Dabulewicz.
