When students return today for the first day of classes atMountain Viewthey might have to do a doubletake.
Those in grades seven through 12 will have a familiar face but new principal as far as the high school is concerned, as former elementary school principal Robert Presley was appointed to the high school post Aug. 13.
And Andrew Doster, who has been principal of the high school since the summer of 2009 is now the new elementary school principal. He previously served as assistant high school principal.
Prior to his being hired in October 2010 as elementary schol principal, Presley had served as assistant principal atEastStroudsburgNorthHigh School.
Mountain View Superintendent Francine Shea, who came on board July 1, said in a letter to faculty that is posted online at www.mvsd.net/education/district/that she had made a recommendation to the school board and the switch went into effect Aug. 13.
There was, however, no public discussion of a pending switch at the board’s Aug. 6 meeting that was attended by Presley but not Doster.
Dr. Todd L. Adams, president of theMountain Viewschool board, said Monday night the decision to change principals was an administrative one of the superintendent and not one the board would have been involved in.
Shea’s letter noted, “Together with Karen Voigt, both administrators have built strong working relationships with students and staff and have made great strides in the administration, teaching and learning in their respective buildings.”
“However,” she added “I believe that with these transfers, each will be able to build on the work already in progress and bring, not only a new perspective, but carry on the forward progress and momentum with their administrative strengths in their new areas.”
The Mountain View School Board next meets Aug. 27 at7 p.m.at theMountain ViewElementary School.
