Failed robbery nets guilty plea

An unsuccessful attempt to rob aGreat Bendconvenience store at knifepoint in May will end up sticking aBinghamton,N.Y., man in jail.

Edward Barber pleaded guilty to attempted robbery Friday morning in Susquehanna County Court. Barber could have faced up to seven years in prison on the felony but, as part of a plea agreement, the 24-year-old will serve his sentence in the county jail.

President Judge Kenneth Seamans accepted Barber’s plea but also advised him he would face a deadly weapons enhancement at his Oct. 18 sentencing.

Barber admitted to brandishing a knife while holding up the Great Bend Sunoco convenience store on May 16.

Although Barber was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, the store clerk recognized him and he fled the store.
