Warriors eyeing division title

Elk Lake returns to the field under coach Craig Sprout after finishing with a 6-6 record in Lackawanna League Division II last fall.

The Warriors lost four seniors to graduation in Matt Cuomo, Ryan Wilson,Melvin Routeand Jesse Borosh, but return several starters.

Elk Lake returns senior forward Cody Franssen, senior sweeper Clark Fuller, senior fullback Isaiah Ofalt, junior goalie Nick Dudock, junior forward tanner Reyan, junior stopper Matt Coolcock and junior midfielder Tyler Arnold.

Sprout said his main goal for the season is to see the team play quality soccer.

“I want to see the team play good quality soccer and leave everything on the field at every game,” Sprout said. “So we can walk off the field with our heads held high.”

Sprout said he isn’t sure what the season will bring, but knows the Warriors will have challenges against the likes ofMountain Viewand Holy Cross.

However, Sprout said he will use a balanced approach to contend against competitors.

“I believe that we have a very balanced team from strikers to goalkeeper,” Sprout said.

Elk Lake’s boys’ varsity soccer team is comprised of seniors Cody Franssen, Dan Noldy, Isaiah Ofalt, Clark Fuller and Aric Curry, juniors Nick Dudock, Tanner Reyan, Matt Coolcock, Tyler Arnold, Alex Manzek, Christian Sprout and Matt Hugaboom, sophomore Chris Cook and freshmen Kyle Roman, Jonathon Baltzley and Bailey Tyler.

Elk Lake’s boys’ soccer team gets its season underway on Monday, Sept. 10, at Old Forge at4:15 p.m.
