Montrose honors FBLA students

The Montrose Area school board honored the two members of the school’s FBLA team,  Callie Curley and Kelsey Brink, along with their teacher/advisor Duane Benedict for going to nationals in June, at the start of their work session Monday night.

The board meeting was otherwise brief and expeditious, with all agenda items voted for unanimously.

Superintendent Michael Ognosky said after the meeting that PSSA scores and the district’s Annual Yearly Progress will be discussed in detail at the October meeting. The district has made AYP status, he said.

An Internet2 service agreement with NEIU 19 was approved as submitted for 12 months from July 1, at a monthly cost of $128.60.

The board approved a one year leave of absence for Mary Gesford, assistant girls basketball coach, for the 2012-13 winter sports season, with the intent to return the following year.

The following policies were approved for first readings and posting on the website: Nondiscrimination in School and Classroom Practices; Extracurricular Activities – Interscholastic Athletics; Sudden Cardiac  Arrest; Purchases Subject To Bid; Purchases Budgeted; Facilities Planning; Automated External Defibrillator (AED) / Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Michele Homan, a learning support instructional aide atLathropStreetElementary School, was granted an unpaid leave of absence from Aug. 29, through Mar. 1, 2013.

The board accepted with regret the resignation of Sue Warriner, part-time food service worker at theJunior-SeniorHigh School, effective Aug. 21.

The following part-time food service workers were hired effective Aug. 28, at the rate of $7.85 per hour, for a maximum of four and a half hours per day for 180 student school days with benefits: Tiffany Morgan at theLathropStreetElementary School; Barbara Zielinski and Kathleen Lonzinski, at theJunior-SeniorHigh School. Misty Moore was also hired as part-time food service worker at theJunior-SeniorHigh School, effective Sept. 10.

Students David Koloski and Dylan Heeman were hired as part of the Cooperative Occupational Experience Program for the 2012-2013 school year at the rate of $7.25 per hour for a maximum of 20 hours per week.

The board accepted with regret the following census taker resignations, effective immediately:  Elaine Henninger – Montrose Borough; Diane Truman,JessupTownship; and Michele Homan –Liberty,FranklinandApolaconTownshipsand Little Meadows Borough.

The board appointed the following mentor teachers: Sarah Brander – Spanish at the High School, Robyn Lubash – kindergarten atLathropStreetElementary School, Heather Jurchak – fourth grade atLathropStreetElementary School, and David Wood – second grade atLathropStreetElementary School.

Zachary Knott and Matthew Kellum were hired as elementary day to day substitutes in the elementary school.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 8, at7 p.m.at theChoconutValleyElementary School.
