Dog shot by neighbor

A Dimock Township man police say shot a neighbor’s dog now faces animal cruelty charges.

Matthew Debonis, 32, allegedly shot a black Lab-mix dog, Bear, in its chest with a 22-caliber rifle after it crossed onto his Meshoppen Creek Road property Dec. 30, 2012.

Bear’s owner, Michelle Foster, transported the dog to the Clarks Summit Emergency Veterinary Clinic.

According to the police report, the veterinarian said the bullet missed all of the dog’s vital organs and he is expected to make a complete recovery.

The incident was investigated by Tpr. T.J. Horan.
