Blue Ridge sets 2-13-14 calendar

Blue Ridge School Board set its 2013-14 calendar at the Monday, March 4 meeting.
The first day of class for students will be Tuesday, Sept. 3. Teachers will return to school, Aug. 26-29 for scheduled in-service days.
With Christmas falling on a Wednesday this year, the winter break will begin Monday, Dec. 23, with students returning to school on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.
Graduation is slated for June 14, 2014.
The board exonerated the local tax collectors from collecting the delinquent 2012 real estate taxes that have been turned over to the county for collection.
In the Blue Ridge School District, over $460,000 in real estate taxes went uncollected in 2012.
District Business Manager Loren Small said the delinquent amount was on par with other years.
The board also signed a licensing agreement with RH Theatrical for the show rights to perform ‘The Sound of Music’ as the spring high school musical production.
High School teacher Mitchell Less was granted a one-year sabbatical in 2013-14 for professional development.
A co-curricular position as the fitness room monitor was also created by the board. Supervision of the fitness room will take place, Monday-Thursday until the late bus departs. Maximum compensation for the position was set at $2,100.
