Thousands lined the streets of Montrose, Thursday, July 4 for the annual patriotic parade sponsored by the area Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary service clubs.
With the theme “A Good Neighbor 4th,” the parade featured local bands, and floats and marching groups representing community groups and organizations from all around Susquehanna County.
The Harford Volunteer Fire Company float earned first prize. The float depicted rescue scenes with the company’s “good neighbor” volunteer responders.
South Montrose Community Church’s “Soup Night” float garnered second place honors. The church welcomes area residents for a free meal each month, fall through spring, and collects donations for the local food bank.
Old Mill Village earned a third place award. The Village museum houses local artifacts and celebrates the heritage of the Endless Mountains region while offering special community events throughout the year.
The fourth place parade award went to the Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church. The church is celebrating its 200th anniversary and will hold a day-long special event in September.
Susquehanna County 4-H filled the streets with jubilant marchers earning a 5th place parade award.
And Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania and Boy Scout Troop 90 tied for sixth place.
The Ted Brzuska Memorial Award, sponsored by the Montrose Kiwanis Club, was given to the Montrose Area High School football team and cheerleading squad.
In addition to the patriotic parade, festivities included over 100 craft and artisan vendors on the Green.
The festivities were capped off by a fireworks show at dusk at the Montrose Area High School, sponsored by the Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce.
