Residents of the VA Center in Wilkes Barre and the Geno J. Merli Center in Scranton enjoyed the areas outstanding fall foliage as they traveled to Susquehanna on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The veterans were invited to an outing hosted by American Legion Post 86, where they enjoyed a chicken and biscuit dinner, games of chance, and music by Terry Rockwell.

The visiting veterans, 10 from each facility, accompanied by VA staff and volunteers, were greeted by Post 86 Trustee Tom Hurley, Legion members Joe Canini, Peter Janicelli, Joe Bucci and Michael Vaccaro.

The Legionnaires helped make those with wheelchairs and walkers comfortable as they served the dinner prepared by Candy Kuiper and her friends Peggy and Debbie. Post members assisted the guests with their games and distributed gifts from Legion Riders, Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion.

According to Hurley, who arranged this day out for the veterans who served their country in all conflicts since World War II, this has been an annual event for the past 15 years.
