A 31-year-old Susquehanna man was shot in the leg during a Jan. 13 home invasion robbery attempt in New Milford Twp.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Francis Muchanic knocked at the door of the Braman residence on Creek Rd. at about 7:30 p.m., and then forced his way into the home when David Braman, 69, partially opened the door.
Braman had come to the door with a loaded 357 Smith and Wesson revolver.
The police investigation revealed that Muchanic arrived at the residence with Dylan Brewer, 20, New Milford, and Evan Hess, 20, Forest City. The men had been driven to the home by Erica Major, 31, Forest City.
According to police, the men approached the residence and Muchanic was wearing a ski mask when he knocked on the door telling the victim that he needed to use his phone due to car problems.
Braman then realized the man was wearing a mask and attempted to close the door. He then forced his way in and began physically assaulting the man and knocked him to the ground.
Braman fired three shots inside his residence, hitting Muchanic once in the groin area.
According to police, Muchanic then exited the residence and fell to the ground. Brewer and Hess left Muchanic and fled the scene on foot.
Major, Muchanic’s girlfriend, then picked him up and the two fled in her vehicle.
Braman contact Susquehanna County 911 and reported the incident and shooting.
Shortly after the home invasion robbery, Major contacted the Susquehanna County Communications Center in Montrose. She reported that her boyfriend stopped to assist a disabled motorist on I-81 North in Great Bend Twp.
Major told the 911 dispatcher that when Muchanic exited the veicle, the motorist shot him in the groin area.
She then drove her vehicle north on I-81 to a rest area just over the state line. From there, Muchanic was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, N.Y., for treatment of the gunshot wound.
According to police, Muchanic was listed in critical condition.
Muchanic has been charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and criminal conspiracy.
Major was charged by Tpr. Mark Mulvey with a misdemeanor charge of false reports, along with felony counts of criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
Brewer was charged by Tpr. Mark Mulvey with felony criminal attempt/theft and criminal conspiracy to commit robbery.
Hess has charged with criminal attempt/theft and criminal conspiracy to commit robbery.
New York Police are charging Muchanic as a fugitive from justice based on PSP charges.
Major and Brewer were arraigned before District Judge Jeffrey Hollister in Montrose.
Major is being held on $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 20 in New Milford District Court.
Brewer is being held on $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 20 in New Milford District Court.
Hess has not been located and a warrant exists for his arrest.
