“Gentlemen, start your engines!”
Those were the words spoken as Cub Scout Pack 81 revved things up in January with their Pinewood Derby with many thanks to racing sponsors, TJ’s Auto Supply and Culnane’s Garage of Susquehanna, for providing the derby cars and awards for winning Cub Scouts.
Each den competed and based on best time was awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals.
Tiger Den winners were: 1st place – Patrick Verdetto; 2nd place – Jeremiah Hadden; 3rd place – Sean Hershel.
Wolf Den winner included: 1st place – Miles Crawford; 2nd place – Zackary Heath; 3rd place – William Lawrence.
Bear Den winners were: 1st place – Luke Hilling; 2nd place – Reilly Potter; 3rd place – Dawson Consla.
Webelos I Den were: 1st place – Joseph Curtis; 2nd place – Billy Steele; 3rd place – Avery Yestrepsky.
Winners from the Webelos II Den were: 1st place – Zachary Consla; 2nd place – Preston Perry; 3rd place – Devyn Benson.
Billy Steele was the first place overall winner, followed by Joseph Curtis and Patrick Verdetto.
The Best of Show award was voted on derby attendees and went to Will Lawrence. He received a display case for his Pinewood Derby car.
All participants received the 2014 Pinewood Derby patch.
Upcoming Pack 81 events include a Winter Olympics; a Bowl-a-thon to benefit the SNF unit at Barnes-Kasson Hospital and a visit to the facility to present patients with care packages and homemade Easter decorations.
The annual Blue and Gold banquet to celebrate and advance the scouts’ ranks will be held in May.
There are 38 Cub Scouts and 14 adult leaders in Pack 81 with Cubmaster Terry Rockwell; Assistant Cubmaster Todd Heller; Committee Chair Tammy Heller; Committee Members JoAnn Clemo, Stephanie Consla-Babcock.
