Very few, if any SCSD students are exposed to Jewish culture but that didn’t hinder the entire 25 member cast from giving believable performances as residents of a poor Jewish community in pre-revolutionary Russia. This is a credit to director Mrs. Teresa Marino and the dedicated students of the theatre department. The story, set in Russia in 1905, centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters and his attempt to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences creep into his home and create challenges he must cope with.
Among the veteran actors who once again graced the stage at SCHS for this production were: Alyssa Rockwell; Olivia Rockwell; Dylan Roe; Rachel Serfilippi; Kayla Marino; Abigayle Day; Nick Acosta; Ben Kane; Michael Pelicci; Kevin Silfee; Jessi Staros; Danny Staros. There was a special guest appearance by Angie Tyler as The Fiddler, who also would leave the stage when she completed her Fiddler role and take her place in the orchestra to play her violin.
The orchestra was made up of: Amy Zakarauskas, Kristen Burkhart, Terry Tyler, Alison Yuravich, Bob Orner, Joel Perkosky, Jeff Burkett, Nick Swaha, John Manchester, Scott Zimmerman, and Mike Stabella.
There is always an outstanding “new kid on the block” and for this production it was Jack Avery who was recruited late in the rehearsal stage to take over a role. “Good job” Jack, I am sure Mrs. Marino appreciated your singing ability and willingness to step up when needed.
There are always people behind the scenes who contribute to a production and Fiddler was no exception. Besides Director Teresa Marino there was Stage Manager Nick Chamberlain; Stage Crew, Jessica Plutino, Bryce Baldwin, Kamdin Maby; Eric Hall, Jordan King; Sound, Sean Elliott; Lighting, Susie Chamberlain, Dale Reid; Costumes, Melissa Chamberlain.
The new lighting, acquired by a grant from the gas industry, added greatly to the enjoyment of the audience.
