Sports arena discussed in Dimock

BY PAT FARNELLI

Dimock Township Supervisors were informed of a possible sports dome/arena project being considered for Susquehanna County during their meeting Monday.

Joshua Ely attended the meeting with an informational packet regarding the proposed arena. He said that the Elk Lake school campus area would be an ideal site for such a building, being centrally located within the county.

Ely asked the supervisors to make a donation, typically $500, toward the costs of a feasibility study for such a project. He said that a similar structure is in use in the Binghamton area.

The Community Foundation is conducting the fund drive for the study, and according to Elk Lake Superintendent William Bush, several school districts have already expressed interest in such a venue, which could be used for play-offs and multi-field events for community sports leagues as well as those between school districts.

Available for public view at the meeting was a DEP permit for two temporary stream crossings, a 770 foot access road, and residential water well for the former Mike Ely property at the intersection of Carter Road and Dimock to Nicholson Road. The permit applicant was John Smalko.

After a brief summary of the permit, Supervisor Matt Neenan, said, “I’m not sure what they are going to try to prove.”

This property already has a driveway on Carter Road, and was recently purchased by Cabot Gas & Oil.

During the public comment period, it was asked if the supervisors had received a violation report for the Lewis 2 gas well. They replied that they had not.

Drilling permit applications, COG permits, and remediations were reviewed. All paperwork was available for review by attendees.

A consumptive use of water permit was approved for the Grimsley JP1 pad.
There was a notification from DEP about an accidental release of 100 to 150 gallons of produced water at Williams’ Church Compressor Station.

A permit for the Grasavage 1, 2, 3, and 4 gas wells was available for view.
Neenan said that none of the drilling permits received was for property within the township boundaries.
