A Binghamton, N.Y., man suspected of committing multiple burglaries in Susquehanna County was taken into custody Thursday, Oct. 16.
Charles Motzer Jr., 48, has been charged in Montrose District Court in connection with an Oct. 9 burglary in Silver Lake Twp.
On a warrant issued from Susquehanna County, officers from the Silver Lake and Vestal Police Departments along with members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force executed a search warrant at Motzer’s residence on Crandall St., Binghamton, N.Y. Johnson City Police also assisted in apprehending Motzer.
He was located and taken into custody at a residence in Johnson City, N.Y. Motzer was arraigned in Town of Vestal Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail.
Items found in a search of his vehicle yielded property traced back to a residence in Susquehanna that had been burglarized earlier that day.
The homeowner had not been aware of the burglary when contacted by police but later confirmed.
Items removed from the home included two televisions; a Wii game console, accessories and games; a DS XL game system and games; Blue-Ray movies; DVDs; a jewelry box containing diamond earrings; a railroad watch; miscellaneous jewelry; green pillow cases; and an Ipad.
Motzer presumably also put gas in his vehicle from a gas can taken from the residence, then discarded the can in shrubs along the driveway.
According to police, Motzer is suspected of committing several recent burglaries in the county, as well as in rural areas of southern Broome County, N.Y.
Police say witnesses have already stepped forward placing Motzer or the red Monte Carlo in the Choconut, Silver Lake and Town of Binghamton, N.Y., areas. The accused also has ties to the Windsor and Deposit areas, according to police.
According to the report, Vestal Police are in possession of several items that may be from burglaries and are working with local law enforcement agencies in attempt to identify other property owners.
Police are asking anyone who may have been the victim of a recent burglary or anyone who may have knowledge of Motzer’s recent activity and whereabouts to please call their local law enforcement agency.
Motzer, was charged by Silver Lake Chief Timothy Burgh with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief in connection the Oct. 9 incident in Silver Lake Twp.
Charges are also pending in the Oct. 16 burglary in the Susquehanna area, according to a report issued by Pennsylvania State Police, Gibson.
