The Blue Ridge varsity soccer goalie is the Independent’s Student Athlete of the Week. Shawn Woodruff has been playing soccer for about 10 years and has received honors on and off the soccer field.
“I just love the game because it can change so fast and is exciting,” Woodruff said
The Raiders’ have had a decent season, according to Woodruff, “full of lots of hard work and heart.”
In addition to soccer, Woodruff participates in several other activities both in and out of school. He plays basketball and volleyball for Blue Ridge and competes in a bowling league at Valley Lanes in Great Bend. Woodruff also represents Valley Lanes as a member of a Youth Leaders League.
He has earned accolades for his high school athletics. Woodruff has been named MVP and earned the coaches’ award in soccer. He twice earned the MVP title in volleyball and was named Defensive Player of the Year; and in basketball he earned the coaches’ award.
But Woodruff’s efforts don’t stop on the playing field. He is also a member of FBLA and the high school chorus. He is also the author of three published poems.
Another honor he had enjoyed for his hard work is that he is the author of three published poems, so far.
“I love my family and friends and I don’t know where I would be without them,” Woodruff said. He is the son of Duane Woodruff and Tina Brown of New Milford.
After graduation, Woodruff plans to attend college and study accounting or applied science.
